The promenades of Merano
The famous promenades of Merano are landmarks of the health resort Merano, and run along the Passer river and the slopes of the Küchelberg without any notable sloping. Because of their sunny and protected location, and the low humidity in winter, the flora is subtropical all year round.

- Left: The Mediterranean Flora and the alpine panorama of the surrounding mountains make up the special appeal of the promenades of Merano.
- Center: Memorial of the austrian empress Sissi at the Summerpromenade in Merano. She visited Merano several times, which contributed to the fame of Merano as spa.
- Right: The Steinerne Steg, an arch bridge over the Passer river in Merano, was built in the 16th century.
The Spa Promenade
The Spa Promenade with the striking spa hotel, a building dominated by Classicism and Art Nouveau, with a beautiful concert hall, runs along the right bank of the Passer river.
Winter Promenade and Summer Promenade
Leading down the river Passer you find the Winterpromenade with its Art Nouveau foyer, and the shadowy Summerpromenade which leads to the monument of the empress Sissi, who greatly enjoyed being in Merano.
Where Winter- and Summer Promenade meet, there is the stone footbridge (der Steinerne Steg), a roman arch bridge from the 16. century. From here, the sunny Gilfpromenade leads all the way up to the castle Zenoburg.
The Tappeiner Trail
However, the most beautiful promenade of Merano is the Tappeiner trail (Tappeiner Weg), which crosses the southern flank of the Küchelberg.
It is lined by subtropical flora and offers a splendid view of the Old Town of Merano and the fertile Meraner Land, which is also called Burggrafenamt.
This promenade is called after its initiator, Franz Tappeiner, a former doctor at the health spa of Merano.
